Severe Scoliosis 70 Year Old
Patient Profile
The Challenge
At 70, this patient had a lot of challenges including overcoming the effects of a stroke she suffered 3 years prior to us seeing her. She also had severe scoliosis that was diagnosed as a teen but never received any treatment. She sought treatment for her scoliosis only in her late 60s with minor improvements. When we started treatment with her she was using a portable oxygen tank that she needed to carry with her to help aide her breathing. She had a major truncal shift and her sagittal balance was extremely poor and she had a significant anterior pelvic tilt.
The Solution: Total Scoliosis Solution (TSS) Program
She enrolled in our TSS Program, where we designed a personalized treatment plan focused on:
Postural realignment in all three planes
Strength and stability training to improve balance
Targeted exercises to enhance flexibility, mobility, strength, balance, and to help reduce pain
Scoliosis-specific exercises to address her major curve as well as sagittal posture correction
The Results
After the completion of her initial program, she was told by the specialist that she did not need her portable oxygen tank anymore. Her alignment had improved in both the coronal and sagittal plane as evident from the posture photos. These positive changes prove that it’s never too late to take charge of your health. The patient is now in her 80s and she is facing challenges, and we are continuing to assist her remotely (out of Province) to overcome her challenges.
